Aura Aero übernimmt VoltAero-Assets

Der französische Flugzeughersteller Aura Aero (Toulouse-Francazal) hat am 23. Juni 2026 wesentliche Vermögenswerte des Hybrid-Elektro-Flugzeug-Startups VoltAero übernommen. Dabei handelt es sich nicht um eine vollständige Firmenübernahme, sondern um den Erwerb strategischer Assets.

Was übernommen wurde
Aura Aero erhält den Hybrid-Elektro-Flugdemonstrator Cassio S, Patente, Flugtest-Daten, Prototyping-Kapazitäten, einen Teil des VoltAero-Teams sowie die Industrieinfrastruktur am Standort Rochefort (rund 2.400 m² Nutzfläche mit direktem Rollbahnzugang). Der Cassio S absolvierte seit Beginn der Flugtests im Jahr 2019 über 270 Flüge und legte dabei rund 25.000 Kilometer zurück.

Hintergrund: VoltAero
VoltAero wurde 2017 von Jean Botti gegründet, dem früheren Cheftechniker von Airbus, der zuvor das Airbus-E-Fan-Projekt geleitet hatte. Das Unternehmen entwickelte die Cassio-Familie — Hybrid-Elektro-Flugzeuge mit vier bis zehn Sitzen (Cassio 330, 480, 600). Im Oktober 2025 wurde VoltAero unter gerichtliche Aufsicht gestellt (redressement judiciaire), nachdem erwartete Investitionen ausblieben und das Unternehmen seine Verbindlichkeiten nicht mehr bedienen konnte. Die eigenständige Weiterentwicklung der Cassio-Baureihe dürfte damit beendet sein.

Bedeutung für Aura Aero
Aura Aero entwickelt neben der zweisitzigen INTEGRAL-Baureihe (konventionell und elektrisch) das 19-sitzige Hybrid-Elektro-Regionalflugzeug ERA sowie das ENBATA-Drohnenprogramm. Die übernommenen VoltAero-Technologien — insbesondere die Erfahrung aus dem Flugbetrieb hybrider Antriebssysteme — sollen direkt in diese Programme einfließen. Der Standort Rochefort soll künftig für Elektroantrieb-Flugtests und das ENBATA-Drohnenprojekt genutzt werden. Aura Aero hat bislang rund 340 Millionen Euro eingeworben, überwiegend aus öffentlichen Fördermitteln in Frankreich und im US-Bundesstaat Florida.

Airbus and AURA AERO partner to decarbonise pilot training

Airbus Flight Academy Europe, a 100% subsidiary of Airbus that supplies training services for the French Armed Forces pilots and civilian cadets, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AURA AERO, an aircraft manufacturer specialised in fully-electric designs, to jointly approach decarbonisation for pilot training by introducing electric-powered aircraft for commercial and military pilot formation.

Under this agreement, Airbus Flight Academy Europe will collaborate on the initial development of INTEGRAL E, a fully-electric, two-seater trainer aircraft ideally suited for the initial stages of pilot training. While operating from an airfield equipped with superchargers, the INTEGRAL E aircraft can be charged in 20 to 30 minutes, granting the aircraft an hour of flight endurance. “Our target at Airbus Flight Academy is to operate a low-carbon aircraft fleet by 2030,” said Airbus Flight Academy Europe CEO Jean Longobardi. “We are excited to collaborate with AURA AERO in this field and are convinced that, by combining our expertise, we can meet the ambition of decarbonising to the current pilot-training approach. INTEGRAL E could become the first step to a broader partnership.”

Jérémy Caussade, CEO and co-founder of AURA AERO, said: “Our technical and commercial teams are very happy and honoured to have been chosen by Airbus to support the decarbonisation of their training activities.
