Schlagwort-Archive: Gliding Champion

Like Father… like Son

Matt Davis, son of double World Champion Andy Davis, is the new United Kingdom 18 Metre Class National Champion. Flying a JS1C in Aston Down UK from June 15, until June 23, against a strong field including four former World Champions, and many current and former British Team pilots, Matt moved into first place on the final day after a display of consistent flying which saw everybody else drop away in changeable and challenging weather.

Matt, a former multiple Junior National Champion, demonstrated the JS1C is still a highly competitive competition glider in northern European conditions. The weather varied throughout the 9-day event from good cumulus conditions, through heavy rain showers, low cloud base, and extensive spread out to blue on the final day.

Proud Dad Andy, who flew a DG-1000 to 4th place in the 20 Metre Two Seater Class at the same event, commented that Matt’s win was even more remarkable, given that he has only flown twice since August last year. Matt achieved this without cloud flying on the days when many other competitors resorted to cloud climbs to cross large dead areas. All Results. Source: Jonker-Newsletter.
