Supertyphoon Rai

Supertyphoon Rai, known in the Philippines as Odette, slammed into the island nation a couple of days ago as a Category 5 storm, though it weakened some as it passed over land areas. Destruction was widespread in the central and southern portions of the country, and there were many injuries and a climbing death toll (more than 200 now, with many still missing). I found the below picture of the damage at a Philippine airport, though I don’t know which. Every time one of these typhoons hits the Philippines (15 this year, average 20/year), I wonder if I’m insane to be seriously considering retiring there, and even more insane to think of taking my Commander there with me. Rai/Odette was the strongest storm of 2021, and the damage, though severe, pales in comparison to 2013’s Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda, in which over 6,300 were killed. Here is an article about the recent storm, from the BBC. Source: Gerry Borts on facebook‘.
